The staff of self-titled has written and/or worked for such diverse music/culture publications as Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Giant, SPIN, Time Out NY, Decibel, XLR8R and Urb. That said, they don't read too many magazines these days. Why? It's simple—because today's glossies can't hold our attention any longer than a YouTube clip.
That's why Pop Mart Media publisher Andrew Parks launched self-titled in early 2008: to present something other than egocentric "criticism" and profiles that read like regurgitated press releases. While they certainly run reviews and full-on artist features, s/t thrives on answering the questions others don't ask—on being irreverent, yes, but also presenting a product that's as professional looking as any major print magazine. Especially the wide open canvases offered in our digital magazine—a place for stunning photography and the ever-blurring line between traditional and digital media.
